Our Saxton Math program has been in place since 2011. We are seeing improvement in student's ability to think through problems. The curriculum has an incremental structure that distributes content throughout the year. This integrated and connected approach provides deep, long-term mastery of the content and sills. In short, the program:
* Breaks down concepts into smaller increments
* 10% new / 90% review
* Test frequently
* Ensures students gain and retain critical thinking skills
* Homework most days
Even though we practice basic math facts on a daily basis, we see the need for further practice at home to help your child master the basic addition & subtraction.
*IXL is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of practice questions in hundredths of skills. Please encourage the practice of this program at home. Even a couple of minutes each night can help you second grader practice math. Your child's user name and password for IXL are located in their planner. (When your on IXL.com select math and second grade.)
*Students are also encouraged to use the XtraMath website to practice their addition and subtraction basic facts.
